Update: 'Carstens Fire' 15% Contained
Cal Fire's recent update on the "Carstens Fire" burning in Mariposa lists the fire as 15 percent contained and has burned 900 acres. It started Sunday around 2pm and is being fueled by steady winds and dry grass off Carstens Road, east of 140.

Two Arrested in Porterville for Allegedly Stealing Cars, Growing Pot
Two people have been arrested in Porterville accused of stealing cars and growing marijuana. 30-year-old Luke Hulstine and 28-year-old Vanessa Salais were taken into custody in front of an abandoned home near Avenue 144 and Road 208 auto theft charges.

Fresno Community Pools Open Today Thanks to Kaiser Grant
Four Fresno community pools will open Monday just in time for the official start of summer, which is Friday. The pools have been closed for years, but a $60,000 grant from Kaiser Permanente has allowed the city to reopen the pools at Fink-White, Einstein, Quigley and Romain neighborhood centers.

1,000 Acres Burned, 500 Homes Evacuated in Mariposa County
Firefighters are on scene of a 1,000 acre fire burning in Mariposa County that started yesterday and is being fueled by steady winds and dry grass. 500 homes have been evacuated in the Hites Cove, Jerseydale and Scott Road areas.

Fire near Hwy. 41 and Hwy. 145 Scorches 1,000 Acres
Another fire Sunday afternoon as well... This one off of Highway 41 near Highway 145... fairly close to 22 Mile House. It was a large vegetation fire that consumed at least 1,000 acres.
