Catherine Mylinh

By Megan Valentine

Catherine Mylinh is ecstatic to be back in the Golden State; she anchors and reports for KSEE 24 News. Catherine also has weather anchoring responsibilities.

Before Catherine joined KSEE 24 News in January 2005, she spent time in the Southwest working as a reporter and fill-in anchor for CBS affiliates KBIM in Roswell, New Mexico and KRQE in Albuquerque. Among some of her most memorable stories: the 2004 Presidential election and Chaves County's pivotal role in the close race; the extremely wet winter that ravaged cotton crops and devastated farmers; and the rape and murder of New Mexico State University student Katie Sepich as her family continues to search for answers to the brutal crime.

More recently, Catherine worked on a series called "County in Crisis," where she reported on Fresno County's staggering budget shortfall. The reports took her to Sacramento where she questioned state lawmakers and Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger on why the county doesn't get comparative funding even though it's one of the fastest growing counties in California. Catherine also covered the race for Fresno County Sheriff, the most-watched local race, during the midterm elections in November 2006. The race proved so close, county officials took weeks to certify it.

Catherine has received Associated Press awards for her series of in-depth stories on domestic violence and its effects on the community, as well as for her reports on illegal road-hunting. She has also been honored by the Alzheimer's Association for her coverage of Alzheimer's patients and their families' daily struggles with the debilitating illness. In 2006, Catherine was part of team coverage that received an Emmy award for Best Daytime Newscast.

Catherine graduated from San Jose State University with a degree in journalism and political science. Her broadcast career began in San Francisco where she worked as an associate producer at KICU and Silicon Valley Business, a weekly show that focused on the Bay Area's business and tech sectors.

In her spare time Catherine tries to bang out some tunes on the piano; she's been playing since she was five. Catherine also enjoys spending time with family and friends, keeping up with her new puppy (which she adopted from the Central California SPCA), rock climbing, taking road trips, reading, knitting and butchering classic rock songs at karaoke bars. Her parents are her heroes.
