To say that Harriet Huggins is dedicated to Clovis West high school might be an understatement. Mrs. Huggins has spent her entire teaching career, more than 20 years, at Clovis West.

Many of her students belong to an award winning program she co-coordinates called “AVID”, or Achievement Via Individual Determination.

Through AVID Mrs. Huggins not only helps create lifelong learner, she teaches young people the importance of community service.

Giving back happens many times throughout the year, most notably at the annual AVID blood drive.

Mrs. Huggins started it eleven years ago, and since then it’s grown tremendously. This past February, they easily surpassed their previous record, collecting more than 600 pints for the Central California Blood Center.
