Janet hayhurst has a knack for making seemingly complicated math problems...No problem at all.
At Navelencia Middle School in Reedley, Mrs. Hayhurst teaches algebra to 8th graders. What they learn here prepares them for the years to come.
"They're gonna be going to high school next year...Succeed in their mathematical life."
Mrs. Hayhurst says she tries to make learning as fun as possible. And to do that...She uses some unconventional techniques ...And her heart.
"Just being animated and strange is the only way I can say that and generally caring for the kids."
Whatever she does...It seems to be striking a chord with students.
"She's just fun."
"She explains every theory and helps us using a lot of examples easy to understand her."
And understanding is exactly what seems to be happening in mrs. Hayhurst's classroom...In every sense of the word.
"Making a connection and letting them know you generally care about what happens to them is one of the most important things a teacher should do."
That's why Janet Hayhurst is our KSEE24 Educator of the Week.
