Across the Board Budget Cuts

By KSEE News

Tuesday, County Supervisors put every department on notice that cuts need to be made and soon.

This time the county needs to make up for a 6 million dollar budget shortfall.

The gap was created when Supervisors moved that money from a foster care program to the Sheriff's Department.

Supervisors say it's up to each county department head to figure out where or, in some cases, who to cut.

Among the recommendations, slashing nearly 3 million dollars from the Sheriff's budget.

As if this latest budget hit wasn't enough, County Supervisors just learned the budget for mental health programs will be short 2 million dollars.

They were counting on revenues from vehicle license fees that never materialized.

In two weeks, when department heads present their recommendations to the board, more should be known about how, or if, these cuts will effect county services and programs.
