Budget Battles Across California

By KSEE News

Chowchilla State Prison employees gathered early Wednesday night to protest executive ordered wage cuts.

Last month, Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger issued an order to cut all state employee wages to $6.55 per hour until California’s budget is finalized.

Moves have been made to resolve the overdue state budget.
Legislators have tried to come up with a compromise to satisfy both Democrat and Republican Senators.
But each time, failed to get the two-thirds vote needed to pass.

Senate President Pro Tem, Democrat, Don Perata met with the governor Wednesday to make a deal which reportedly includes a three year sales tax increase, in return for a promised permanent sales tax reduction.
Perata expressed his hope for republican senators to vote for this new deal.

At this point, only two republicans are expected to vote with senate democrats; one being the Bakersfield Senator, Republican, Roy Ashburn.

This is just more taxes and spending. Here is the only solution. Mandate no person who works for the state including all teachers and adminstrators can get more than 50 percent of their pay in retiremane, pay 1/3 of their medical work until 62 and return class size to 30 to one. This beginning is only a good start but if we don't the state will implode like Chernoble
