Seniors are most likely to have a nest egg where they own their home and have excellent credit, all of which a con-man will try to tap into these days. Older Americans are less likely to report fraud because they are too ashamed or don't know who to tell. Mark Pogon from Turner Security Systems said seniors can stay safe if they have security systems install in their home.

Here are some tips you can avoid: Have a healthy skepticism when it comes to callers, use your peep hole, don’t open the door unless certain of caller, don’t give personal information over the telephone, don’t care large amounts of money, consider wearing a medical alert device, remove trip hazards, install grab rails and ramps to improve mobility, and home repairs should never be paid for in advance. Only 10% or $1,000 (whichever is less) is required.
