More fathers can now take advantage of a program that helps dads become responsible parents.Within the first year the Pops Program has served 188 young fathers and couples.
Department of Justice survey reveals that of 7,000 inmates, 39% lived in mother-only households. One in ten (10.3%) Fresno County households with children less than 18 years old are headed by females with no husband present compared to California (7.1%) and U.S. (7.3%) statistics. Children in father absent homes are 4 times more likely to be poor. In 2011, 44% of children in mother-only families were living in poverty compared to 12% of children in married couple families. Fresno EOC expands collaborative fatherhood program to Fresno County Proving Our Parenting Skills (POPS) Responsible Fatherhood Program is a collaborative that provides resources to Fresno County fathers in need of economic stability and employment services, activities to promote or sustain marriage and healthy relationships, and activities to promote responsible fatherhood/parenting. This program provides job training and employment services, fatherhood and parenting skills, and marriage/relationship skills.
