Childhood Obesity: Bringing Produce to Families

Our valley Ag land produces a multitude of crops, yet not everyone has access to it. Experts agree, our rising childhood obesity rates are blamed in part to a lack of availability of healthy foods. One south-east Fresno neighborhood is addressing that need in a creative way.

Burroughs Elementary offers a weekly farm stand to parents and students. A local grower provides fresh produce to families who might not otherwise be able to buy it.

Burrough's mom Susana Cruz says her husband takes their only car to work, so shopping for fruits and vegetables at school is a convenient way for her to provide healthy food to her two daughters.
