Childhood obesity is a matter of serious concern in the central valley. In some areas, it impacts up to 30% of kids.

Curbing the problem can be achieved through education. Teaching young parents to control portion sizes with their children, provide healthy foods, and encourage plenty of activity.

Fresno County Director of Public Health, Dr. Edward Moreno says living a healthy lifestyle is not always easy in some areas of the county. He's excited about a five year federal grant just awarded to Fresno County.

The grant from the CDC will provide up to $500,000 a year to improve the lives of residents. Dr. Moreno would like to see the money used to provide more access to fruits and vegetables in all county neighborhoods as well as clean, safe drinking water in our schools.
