A new British study suggests keeping a child in a rear-facing car seat for as long as possible, even up to four years old. The study found that children were twice as safe facing backwards than they were facing forward.

Thank You Ksee for giving much needed insight into the need for car seat awarness of all types. Car accidents will happen but if we can keep our children and grandchildren alive we need more stories like this one.

Rear-facing as long as possible is extremely important for the safety of your child, but it needs to be done only within the weight and height limits of the convertible seat. Most convertibles now can rear-face to 35 lbs. But you also need to be sure there is at least one inch of hard plastic shell above the head. Once a child has less than one inch OR has reached the rear-facing weight limit (whichever comes first), the child must be turned forward-facing.
