There's nothing sweet about tooth decay, especially in small children. Good oral hygiene begins even before your baby's teeth emerge.
Parents can use a soft cloth to wipe their baby's gums before they grow teeth. Brushing should begin with the first tooth, and flossing when the mouth is full --at 16 to 24 months.
