Andrew Ibarra made a short appearance in a Tulare County courtroom. His mom, Maria Ibarra says it upset her to see him in shackles. "That's not my son, my son is a caring loving son."
Andrew Ibarra is facing attempted murder. Police say he viciously beat his pregnant girlfriend with a baseball bat. She suffered major injuries to her face and shoulders.
Maria Ibarra wasn't home when it happened but says her neighbors saw the whole thing, "The witnesses that I've talked to, they say he didn't hit her with a bat, he fled with a bat, he had the bat in his hand, that's why the cops speculate that."
Ibarra admits her son hit his girlfriend with his fists. She doesn't know why but thinks alcohol had something to do with it. "I'm not saying what he did was right but he was intoxicated and the police are making him out to be some kind of monster and it's not right," she said.
Andrew Ibarra will be back in court September 28th. His bail is set at $500,000. His unborn baby and girlfriend are in stable condition at the hospital.
