An Animal Control officer has been shot to death in Sacramento County, according to the sheriff's department.
A bank worker and the officer went to a house on First Street in Galt about noon Wednesday. The home was in an eviction process, sheriff's spokesman Jason Ramos told KCRA 3.
The pair knocked on the door, and someone inside came out firing shots, Ramos said.
The slain animal control officer, who works for the county, does not carry a gun. The woman from the bank was hit by gunfire as well, but she ran and got help, Ramos said.
The shooter is now barricaded inside the house, Ramos said.
A command post is set up nearby. Many officials are at the scene investigating.
