Teaching 3rd grade isn't easy, but Debbie Fish makes it look that way.
"She's friendly and she's a great teacher."
"She always is nice, and she always tells funny jokes."
Here at Bellevue Elementary in Porterville, its easy to see just how much experience Miss Fish brings to the classroom. She's been teaching now for 15 years.
"I fell in love with the idea that I could combine my degree and my passion with learning. If I could make them excited about the day, excited that 'I've got it', then I've done what I'm supposed to do."
No matter the subject, Miss Fish uses a variety of techniques to help her kids understand, and take their learning to another level.
"I believe in using different modalities. If they can use games, or you can use movement, or you can use music, you've won their heart."
Miss Fish says she goes beyond the basics, and tries to help her kids understand how important it is to think about others. Its something she tries to show them by example as well, spending a lot of her spare time volunteering for a number of different causes in the community.
"Our classroom is a community, it's a hundred percent a community. When they see one kid struggle, a kid will jump right in and say, 'I can help him, I can show him.'"
