A Fresno family says a ten year old girl saved them from a fire. It broke out around 1:30 Thursday morning at a home in northeast Fresno.
A ten year old girl and her brother were sleeping over at their grandmas house when the home caught fire.
More than a dozen fire fighters tackled the fire from every direction. Minutes before the entire roof ignited, 10-year-old Amber Stewart woke up. She says, "I smelled smoke and woke up my brother. We went to the bathroom, splashed some water on my face. Got my grandma."
Geri Hansen says her granddaughter was frantically asking, "what's going on?" Hansen says was almost impossible to see through the smoke.
Stewart says, "The house was getting firey. All fired up. We ran out as fast as we can. My brother fell on the floor so my grandma pulled him out but I made it out safe."
The entire family made it out safely. Hansen says, "I feel thankful my granddaughter was here in a situation like this. We've never had anything like this happen."
Stewart's uncle was only one taken to the hospital. He suffered from smoke inhalation but is expected to be OK.
Fire officials estimate the damage at $300,000. The cause of the fire is still unknown.
