Fresno Police Update on False Child Abduction Claim

December 5, 2012 Updated Dec 5, 2012 at 1:27 PM PDT

On December 4, 2012 at 2:04 pm, Officers from the Fresno Police Department responded to a call of attempted child abduction at Bullard and West.

The 15 year old female first responded to Starr Elementary School and reported the alleged crime to school staff who in turn called our agency. Preliminary information was provided to our officers from a hysterical 15 year old student who advised officers a Hispanic male driving truck and towing a gardening trailer had followed her as she walked home from Bullard High School.

The juvenile told officers that the suspect exited his truck and grabbed her arm and also stole her purse during the confrontation. The suspect allegedly fled the scene with the female’s purse after being scared away.

Numerous Officers saturated the area looking for the suspect and a broadcast of the suspect and his vehicle went out city wide to all units.

After conducting extensive follow up investigation with Sex Crimes Detectives and Patrol Officers it was later determined that this attempt abduction never took place and the 15 year old female fabricated the story due to having some personal issues at school and home. The juvenile was cited out to her mother and charged with filing a false police report.

The Fresno Police Department takes these matters very seriously and approaches these types of investigations as legitimate until proven otherwise.
