On 01-16-13 at approximately 9:51 A.M. the Merced Police Department responded to the Granville Luxury Apartments, 2908 Willowbrook Ct. for a vehicle that had crashed into the swimming pool. When the officers arrived they located a 2000 Chevy Blazer submerged in the complex swimming pool.
Pamela Gwyn (69, Merced) was traveling eastbound on Willowbrook from Highway 59, when for unknown reasons she failed to make the right hand turn. Gwyn drove through the rod iron fence, on the outside of the complex, and continued approximately fifty feet where she hit the swimming pool.
Gwyn’s vehicle was still floating when Craig Lafleur (57, Kingsburg, CA) came to her aid. Lafleur was able to grab the vehicle by the roof rack and pull the vehicle to the edge. Lafleur broke the back window out of the vehicle and was able to rescue Gwyn from her sinking vehicle. If it were not for the quick actions of Lafleur this accident may have had a different ending. There were no injuries as a result of the accident.
Anyone with information regarding this incident is requested to call Officer Sayachak at (209)388-7775, Sergeant Struble (209)385-4739 or the Merced Police Department Tipster Line at (209) 385-4725.
