A 12-year-old girl caused a police chase after she was driving on a North Caroline highway by herself for more than an hour on Monday night.
The girl, whose name has not been released because of her age, reportedly drove from her South Carolina home to Charlotte, North Carolina after getting into a fight with her dad.
Police caught up to the underage driver for the last 15 to 20 minutes of her joyride, during which they reported that she sped up to at least 70 miles per hour.
Given the distance from her house in Gaffney, South Carolina and the fact that she eventually pulled over following police instruction in Charlotte, the girl ended up driving more than 50 miles and crossed a state line.
Police had to call for back up from the State Highway Patrol shortly after the started following the girl at 10.30pm on Monday night.
The police initially became involved because they thought that the driver- who was going extremely slow at points and swerving outside of her lane- was possibly intoxicated.
