Visalia Police say 3 young girls have been burglarizing homes near Encina and Race Streets. Two of the girls are 13 and the other is 12-years-old.
It all ended behind a two story home Tuesday afternoon. A man who lives in the home says he heard a noise and caught the girls trying to climb through a window. The man did not want to be identified, "When I pulled the blinds down...we were face to face I mean we were nose to nose," he said.
He says the girls stole a screwdriver from his son's home next door and then used it to pry his window open. "They ran and then they threw everything down...they even ran out of their flip-flops," he said as he laughed.
A detective caught up with the girls down the street, one of them still had that screwdriver.
Susie Watson was in the neighborhood Wednesday. She couldn't believe it, "I think if it happened one time you could say girls are being girls trying to be rebels but it sounds like that definitely wasn't going on so I think that is extremely scary."
Sergeant Paul Esquibel says the girls broke into at least three other homes, all in the same neighborhood. He says the girls also live in the area, "To have females as young as these three girls were...committing the crimes themselves, it's kind of unique."
As for a motive, police are not sure. They say the girls have never been in trouble, they're not in a gang but they should have been in school.
Police have not released the names of the girls because they are minors.
