A growing number of people in Caruthers are upset with the California Highway Patrol. Wednesday, they let their feelings be known.
Over a hundred people gathered at a church around 11:00 a.m. Wednesday morning. They were joined by the ACLU, who's claiming the Highway Patrol racially profiles.
Several people told the room about being harassed by the CHP. They say a migrant community cannot afford skyrocketing ticket costs.
Three CHP officers were on hand and quietly heard everyone out. Things got loud when a few people showed their anger with interruptive bursts of shouting.
The same men that seemed the most furious stayed a chatted with the CHP officers long after the event ended. The ACLU is calling for an investigation. A spokesman for the Highway Patrol indicated that he would be open to more oversight.
