Man Buried Alive After Falling into Sugar Hopper

A New Jersey man was tragically buried alive after falling into a plant's sugar hopper he was allegedly trying to unclog from above.

The body of Janio Salinas Valerda, 50, of Edgewater was found inside the 15-foot-tall hopper on Monday afternoon more than an hour after coworkers realized he was missing.

No one reportedly saw Mr Valerda fall into the hopper at the CSC Sugar processing plant in Falls Township, Pennsylvania which employees say he was last seen trying to unclog.

Employees had called in a subcontractor to see what was stopping the funnel, Bucks County Coroner Joseph Campbell told The Morning Call, after it had been experiencing clogging problems all day.

'The subcontractor came in at 2:30 and they opened up an access port where they can look into the area where the funnel comes down,' Mr Campbell said. 'When they opened it up, they saw him in there.'
