A mother was arrested for child neglect after she left her two children home alone and went to a friend's house to drink until she passed out, police say.

Officers arrived at the home of Alisha Esch, 20, in Fort Pierce, Florida, after her father found her two children, one three-year-old and one nine-month-old, crying and alone without supervision.

He called the police when he arrived at the home at 11.30pm and told an officer one of the children had a soiled diaper and the other was yelling, ‘asking for their mommy.’

The irresponsible mother eventually came home intoxicated around 5am and passed out on her bed, according to the police report.

Esch told police she went to a friend's house in nearby Vero Beach and was drinking there.

She said that after her father and grandfather left the home around 5pm, she went to a friend's house to drink alcohol and returned around 7.30 p.m. to put her children to sleep, according to the report.

She said she left the home again to drink more and then returned to her home at 9.30pm to check on her children.

She reportedly then she returned to her friend's house.

‘Alisha stated that she drank so much that she passed out at her friend's house and did not return home until approximately 5.00am,’ an officer wrote in the report.
