The Villager Inn sits in the middle of a quiet Selma neighborhood. Neighbors say nothing really happens here, with the exception of Sunday morning.
Police say one man, identified as 32-year-old Clayton Cass, was killed in an officer involved shooting at the motel.
Gary Presley lives across the street. "Very shocked but I guess it can happen at any place, like I said, we've never had a problem."
The Fresno County Sheriff's Department is handling the investigation, but hasn't released many details.
Motel management says officers picked up a key to room 47 around 11:00 p.m. at night.
A neighbor who didn't want to go on camera says the officers went upstairs to that room, kicked the door in and yelled, "put your hands up."
The neighbor also says he heard five gunshots a few minutes later. The sheriff's department confirmed one man is dead. He has not been identified.
Neighbors believe the man had a warrant out for his arrest. Presley says he's not worried about the shooting. "You know, you can't discriminate who you rent a room to so I have no problem, I feel safe."
