The Lanier family is on a mission.
"We're going to buy their grandma some roses."
To spread kindness in the valley.
"Tell her why we're doing it."
"We're doing it for kindness."
"For kindness?"
"Uh-huh."
"We're doing random acts of kindness."
And it didn't take long to see being kind is kind of infectious.
"This is on behalf of D&L."
"Oh, thank you so much!"
"Thank you!"
With kindly donated flowers in hand, it's time for the special delivery.
"Thank you. You're going to make me cry."
Roses for grandma rose.
"And what did this random act do for you today?"
Rose Lanier: "Blessed me. Lifted my spirits."
And it's just one of several ideas that fill this jar with kindness.
"We all sat at the table and took turns deciding what we were going to do."
"We just got a piece of paper and pen and just started putting them in there."
The Laniers are part of an international movement. Sparked by a tweet from NBC's Ann Curry following the school shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary. She encouraged all of us to do acts of kindness honoring each victim.
And with that simple tweet a campaign was born. People worldwide have taken to twitter and Facebook posting various ways they've been kind to others, and in many instances inspiring more acts of kindness.
Brandi Lanier: "It's just neat to see it go full circle and see it spreading and that's the whole point of it is to spread the kindness to be a kinder people."
To be kinder in the wake of an horrific, unimaginable act. When 26 people, including 20 children, were shot and killed by a lone gunman.
"Those parents didn't think that would happen to their children that day. Sorry I get a little emotional. It was devastating."
Brandi Lanier, of Reedley, wanted to use this as a teaching moment for her own children so that the lives lost that day wouldn't be in vain. And so on this day, their acts of kindness continue.
"Knock knock. Hello we're delivering a basket for the sickies."
A basket of goodies to family friends home sick with the flu.
Angela Lucero: "Just for someone to take the time it just really means a lot. We just really appreciate it."
Kindness spread.
"Air hugs we love you."
Lessons learned..
"I gave them to her and then she was happy about it."
And mission accomplished.
There's no website to visit nor rules to follow when taking part in 26 acts of kindness. Just go out and do something nice for others.
