It's been a busy day at Pacific Treasures in downtown Visalia...
It's Small Business Saturday... A national push to buy local.
"Lot of sales so far, we've been busy since the doors opened this morning."
Across the street at Marcela's Home Store... Carlos Rodriguez points out unique items... Things you can't find anywhere else...
Today there's a clearance sale and no sales tax in honor of the growing tradition.
"It's nice to have some national attention to try to encourage those to support these businesses because we are rare and it's definitely a dying breed."
Amy Shuklian, the city's mayor says there's always a reason to visit downtown... But this day definitely helps...
"Whatever brings people downtown to spend some money and bring money to Visalia, that's a good thing."
Clarence Williams agrees... He owns Claudia's Closet... A shop that's been around for 30 years...
"It keeps money in our community, it helps the tax base... Keeps our employees, that's a good thing this day and age."
Back at Pacific Treasures... Kathy Howerton is wrapping gifts.... A complimentary service... And a thanks for shopping local.
"Small businesses are the backbone of community and that it's really important to have the support of the community to keep us going."
