Outside, the sun was hiding today... But inside the Fresno Convention Center... Something was shining bright: holiday cheer.
"Merry Christmas, Happy Hanuakah, Feliz Navidad."
"We're serving homeless children and families in Fresno county."
The day started off with a traditional holiday feast...Turkey and all the trimmings.
"It's good."
When the plates were cleared, it was time for some entertainment....
"We're gonna go get our face painted."
About 1500 families joined in the fun.
"I think it makes me feel happier."
"Christmas is great and I love Christmas all the time."
Organizers say it's all about lifting spirits and giving back.
"It's about bringing everyone together."
"Just having a day to celebrate with their children and their families and creating memories together is really important."
"There's a lot of unfortunate people other than myself that's going through the same thing so I am not alone and I think it's a good thing to help us out and I'm very blessed right now."
And what would a Christmas celebration be without a visit from Santa Claus himself.
"I like santa he gives me some toys cause he's really great."
"He's a jolly man and he's a nice man."
"You're never too big for Santa, I believe..."
And then there were the presents.
"The gifts and the dinner I would need to provide for them as a mother, I would not have had that if it wasn't for this program."
At the end of the day... The best gift of all was the holiday hope given to families who need it the most.
"Everybody needs a gift and someone that cares about them and that shows love."
"Merry Christmas everyone."
"Merry Christmas."
"Merry Christmas to everybody....And Happy New Year."
