Australia has cemented its reputation as the home of the world's most dangerous creepy crawlies with a video showing a large spider eating a one and half foot long snake.
Cairns kite surfer Ant Hadleigh filmed the golden orb spider devouring the brown tree snake in the backyard of a friend's house in Freshwater, Queensland.
He told The Cairns Post: 'I thought it was pretty incredible. A few times the snake managed to get up and attack the spider, and the spider would run back up the web.
'I would have put my money on the snake for sure, especially seeing how big it was."
He said the snake stayed alive for 'an hour or more' after getting trapped in the spider's web, when it finally succumbed to the arachnid's venom.
The spider, he said, was the same one he'd seen eat a wasp the previous day after a battle between the two critters.
He added: ''You could see the spider just chewing into it and the part which the spider was eating had gone all black and the insides were bubbling. It was pretty crazy.''
