A strong storm brought with it some heavy snow in the mountains. For many, the snow fall was long overdue.
The snow packed mountains glistened in the sun Wednesday afternoon. Tuesday night's storm dumped about to six to eight inches of snow onto Shaver Lake. It's a big relief for the small town, where snow means business.
Tyler Powell works at Shaver Lake Sports and says, "It's money falling from the sky."
Short Horn Bar & Grill bartender Justin Landis says, "During the winter time, there's a lot of people coming up to the ski resorts and bringing a lot of business during the day. We really rely on it."
It's been about a month since significant snow has fallen here. The dry weather can also dry up business. At Shaver Lake Sports, the snow on the ground now, will go a long way.
"Once we get more snow, it just brings people up here, and that's what our business thrives on. We need people up here to play in the snow," says Powell.
Families were quick to play in the fresh powder. For one family it doesn't get any better than sledding and running around in a winter wonderland.
It was one lucky day for cross country skier and newlywed John Rupert. He booked his mountain honeymoon weeks ago.
"We didn't expect a snow storm like this. It was great perfect, because we just came up just this morning," says Rupert.
The snow storm even reached the Valley floor. Snow was even captured falling right outside our KSEE24 studios. In East Clovis at Heather Dunkle's house, the snow was an inch and a half deep.
"Extremely unusual. 12 years we've been here and I've never seen it this low or that much, and it stuck. We woke up this morning with it. Amazing," says Dunkle.
Whether it be for pleasure or profit, the fresh snow was refreshing. For some, it's still never enough.
"I wish we could get more than this, but this is a great start," says Rupert.
Landis says, "We want more always."
