The Coroner's Office has confirmed that 30-year-old snowboarder Kynan Stanners was found dead on a highly advanced snowboarding course after he fell head first and likely suffocated.

Stanner's body was found at around 2:00 p.m. Sunday afternoon. China Peak owner Tim Cohee said a witness noticed a board sticking out of the snow.

"This is one of the risks when you have deep snow. The cardinal rule is if you want to enjoy the deep snow you do it with someone else and this is a situation that is unfortunate. This young man was by himself and nobody was there to help him dig himself out," said Tim Cohee.

Cohee said Stanner was with several friends, but he was alone on that portion of the mountain. The Sheriff's Office has taken over the investigation.
