The pope sure knows how to make an entrance. Although His Holiness (or His Holiness' handlers) had announced that he would soon be entering the world of hashtags and character limits, they kept his official handle a secret for another few hours.

Now it’s been confirmed that Benedict XVI will tweet under the name @pontifex, and his first post will be on Dec. 12.

"[The name] means 'pope' and it also means 'bridge builder,'" said one Vatican media advisor.
