Two people, including deputy Robert Paris, were shot to death Thursday in Modesto when authorities went to a home to serve an eviction notice, a Stanislaus County Sheriff's Department spokesperson said.

The shooter is likely barricaded inside an apartment in the 2100 block of Chrysler Drive, said Adam Christianson, of the Sheriff's Department. Officials have been at the scene since about 11 a.m.

There is no threat to the public, officials said, but several agencies are involved here, including a SWAT team and the FBI. Still, people in neighboring homes and areas have been evacuated, Christianson said.
