The hunt for former LAPD officer Christopher Dorner took a dramatic turn Tuesday after a resident of Big Bear, Calif., reported that someone who looked like the suspect swiped his car.
San Bernardino County Sheriff’s office spokeswoman Cindy Bachman confirmed to NBCLosAngeles.com that police are now looking for Dorner in the area that has been the focus of the search for several days.
Bachman said she could not confirm reports that Dorner engaged in a shootout with police and a chase before escaping.
Hundreds of investigators have spent a week searching for Dorner – who is accused of killing a retired captain’s daughter and her fiancé on Feb. 3 and a police officer on Feb. 7 while allegedly carrying out a twisted revenge plot.
Earlier, officials had said the manhunt for Dorner -- now in its sixth day -- had turned "frustrating" as they sifted through a mountain of clues, including a video that may show the suspect stocking up on scuba gear before the killing spree.
"With a thousand clues or tips, you have to prioritize," LAPD Lt. Andy Neiman said at a briefing Tuesday morning.
