Family members gave KSEE24 News a glimpse of Xavier Alexander Frett's life, a picture captured during better times. He is Visalia's latest murder victim. Police say it was at the hands of his own mom and her boyfriend.
Sergeant Amy Watkins said a phone call lead authorities to their home, "when fire units responded they located the 2-month-old, who had been severely burned. As a result of those injuries...he was dead at the scene."
Xavier was just 2-months-old. His mom, Jennifer Granberg and her boyfriend Christopher Harris (the family says his legal name is Christopher Donovan Russell), both 25. Investigators questioned them and then made the arrest.
"The accounts of what occurred and the injuries on the child were inconsistent so it just didn't match up," Watkins said.
Virginia Miranda lives next door. She said the couple moved in ten days ago and she had no idea there was a baby in the home.
"I had never seen that baby, not even when they moved in," Miranda said.
Family Members claim the couple submerged Xavier in boiling water but police have not confirmed that. They said Christopher Harris has a violent past and followed his mom to Visalia from Tucoma, Washington. They also said Child Protective Services had checked on Xavier at least once.
Neighbors said Granberg and Harris were on a drug binge the night before Xavier died. "I feel very bad for the baby because the Mom didn't seem very sad about it," Miranda said.
