The violent attack took place early Sunday morning in the middle of a quiet Visalia neighborhood. Police say 20-year-old Andrew Ibarra chased his girlfriend and beat her with a baseball bat. His girlfriend is an 18-year-old girl who is 7 months pregnant.
Joe Ortez and his son Martin live in the neighborhood. They saw police searching for Ibarra after the attack.
Ortez says he hopes Ibarra goes to jail for a long time, "I don't know how bad she is but he deserves every year he gets if they lock him up," he added.
The victim is recovering at Kaweah Delta Hospital. She suffered severe injuries to her head, upper torso and shoulders. Police say she will survive and her baby is in stable condition.
Ibarra fled the scene but was arrested after a short search. Police are not sure what led up to the attack.
