While many cities and towns in California are in dire financial straits, Sanger is the exception.
The city which faced a two million dollar deficit just two years ago is now in "the black" and boasts a million dollar surplus. Mayor Joshua Mitchell says climbing out of a financial hole wasn't easy, but some common sense made it do-able.
"We've always felt we didn't have a revenue problem in the city, we had a spending problem, so we needed to get our spending under control, way too much on salaries"' says Mitchell.
Mitchell says every city department participated in a deep and meaningful series of budget cuts and then resolved to make a smaller, less costly government serve the taxpayers. It worked and continues to work and has resulted in a budget surplus and a boom in new business and new construction in Sanger.
