WEB EXTRA: Memorial for Hubbard brothers

Marines Jared Hubbard and Jeremiah Baro were killed om action in Iraq on Nov. 4, 2004.

The sound of bagpipes rang through the air in Clovis as a memorial bench to honor Jared and Nathan Hubbard was unveiled.

Family members were on hand at the ceremony. Parents, Jeff and Peggy, cried as a ceremonial wreath was placed on the bench.

"You'd like them. They were fun, energetic, and very happy boys," said Jeff Hubbard.

Nathan and Jared Hubbard were both killed in Iraq, three years apart. In October of 2004, Jared was killed by a roadside bomb in Fallujah and Nathan was killed in a Black Hawk helicopter crash in northern Iraq.

"I'm happy we have the kind of community that supports caring people doing their best," said Jeff.

The third son, Jason Hubbard, is now leading the charge with the help of lawmakers to ensure sole survivors keep their benefits.

"Everyone has been very receptive to it and recognize this is as a problem and moved very fast in getting it fixed," said Jason Hubbard.

"The Hubbard Act" passed in the House, the Senate and now the President is expected to sign it with the family in early September.
