36-year-old actress Christina Applegate recently announced she had breast cancer and chose to have a double mastectomy.
A 46-year-old Fresno woman says she also chose to have both breasts removed after her cancer diagnosis.
A Fresno surgeon who specializes in breast disease says a double mastectomy is an option for many woman who are diagnosed with cancer in only one breast.
It is recommended for patients who carry the breast cancer gene, and is an option for other women who just want peace of mind.
