Regardless of whether the revisions announced today pass, the budget must be adopted this Friday.
If Fresno city hall is to reconcile it's $16 million budget shortfall this year, it's going to have to happen on the backs of its employees... again.
Mayor Ashley Swearengin made several revisions to her budget proposal that outline that.
"We need to bring forward a proposal, an alternate proposal for you to consider, given the assumption that we're not going to reach agreement with the majority of our bargaining groups, until they come open over the next year to 3 years."
Here's a revenue summary...
An increased projection of a million dollars in sales tax revenue...
The privatization of residential solid waste...
A $1 million dollar credit to the retirement fund...
And, a reduction of over $1 million to the payment of negative fund balances.
Mayor Swearengin: "This has been a rather unusual season to develop and put forward a budget."
Here's the expense summary...
Employee concessions, 6% from Fresno police officers, totalling over $4.5 million.
FPOA members will vote tomorrow on concession proposals.
Mark Scott, City Manager: "I think they know that the long term stability of their careers depends on an organization that is worth working for."
Bill Trollinger, FPOA First VP: "Our proposal, city managers proposal. The proposal with the most votes wins. All I can tell you."
Also included are police officer attrition, a million dollars in administrative cuts, and a $1 million reduction to the risk fund.
The total amount of the proposed revisions comes to about $12 million.
The budget is scheduled to be adopted on Friday.
City hall is expecting plenty of reaction from the public regarind the proposed privatization of residential solid waste.
