Breast Cancer Awareness Month kicks off in Fresno during a Celebration of Life Luncheon.
The pink carpet was rolled out this afternoon for nearly 400 breast cancer survivors and their family and friends. The 13th annual Susan G. Komen for the Cure Event was held at Tornino's banquet hall.
Survivors gathered to share their courageous battles against the disease. KSEE 24's Stefani Booroojian was a guest speaker.
Fresno County Sheriff Margaret Mims, a breast cancer survivor, also took part. The event director says the luncheon is all about inspiring, educating and empowering.
Sharon Johnson, Executive Director, Komen Central Valley says, "Everyone's battle is different, yet when we meet each other it's like we consider either the men who are survivors, or women that are survivors, are our survivor brothers or sisters. It's a great way to really introduce each other. I have people who have attended this event who don't really know a lot of people and come away with a lifelong friends."
The Susan G Komen Race for a Cure will be held on October 20th at Fresno State University. Organizers say 75% of the funds raised from the race will stay here in the valley.
