Love Triumphs Over Tragedy

Sarah Roberts' family still feels the pain of her death. It's only overshadowed by the love they give, and the compassion the community has shown.

Sarah Roberts was killed exactly one year ago; January 1st, 2012. Police say she was hit by a stray bullet fired in a gang-related shooting.

The 26-year-old left behind two young children. She's also leaving behind a family who's spirit has only strengthened in the wake of tragedy.

A service was held Tuesday afternoon at Belmont Memorial Cemetery. Later the same night, the community gathered in front of Kerman's City Hall to hold a candlelight vigil.

Friends spoke of how much Sarah meant to them. Sarah's brother told the crowd how their family has only survived thanks to the love the community has shown them.

$40,000 was raised in Sarah's honor after her death. Sarah's mother told the rest of her family, "we're never leaving Kerman."

Many people spoke of the Roberts' willingness to take in total strangers. Now that they're In their own time of need, the community could not have picked a better family to give back to.

Fresno police say they still don't have any strong leads with Sarah's case. The reward to find her killer stands at $2,000.
