After 8 years of planning and interplanetary travel, NBC News is reporting the high tech rover known as "Curiosity" has landed on Mars.
The car-sized, one-ton rover landed in the 96-mile wide Gale Crater, and relayed a message back to the Jet Propulsion Lab in Pasadena that it had arrived.
Curiosity is the biggest rover ever sent to another celestial body.
It's designed to study the Red Planet's surface to see if it was ever habitable.
The prime target is a 3-mile high mountain inside the Gale Crater, which could be storing billions of years of geological history.
