Movie Review: Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull

By Ron Edens

“Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull” picks up the action 19 years after “The Last Crusade,” and the man with the whip might be older, but that’s not going to slow him down, much.

Harrison Ford returns to the role of Professor Jones like he never left it, but now, he’s older, and wiser.

In this adventure, Indiana has to take on Communists that want to use his skills to find a crystal skull that is rumored to unlock vast powers. Along the way he meets up with a rebellious youth, played excellently by Shia Lebouf, and his old girlfriend, Karen Allen, reprising her role from the original “Raiders of the Lost Ark.”

Of course, he also travels the globe. From New Mexico, to new England, To the Amazon… and if you don’t blink, you may even see Fresno.

With despicable villains, amazing action, and over the top romance, “Kingdom” manages to capture the fell of fun, and pulp adventure of the first three movies, but this film is has a lot of changes also. This movie is set in the 1950’s, when the world was more paranoid, and much of the action includes Sci-Fi elements. Blending that Scifi with pulp adventure is a challenge, but Lucas, Spielberg, and the rest of the cast are more than up for the task.

Now, hardcore traditionalists might be upset by the number of computer effects in the film, and some of the stunts are over the top, even for Indiana Jones, but don’t worry about that. This film if fun, from the first minute, to the last.

“Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull” gives fans exactly what they want; an adventure with all the thrills and chills of the original movies.
