The town of Firebaugh, already struggling with an unemployment rate of 40%, is facing another possible economic blow. Firebaugh Chevrolet received a notice from General Motors that it plans to close the dealership by October 2010. A spokesperson for the dealership said this would put 15 people out of work, but they hope to try and increase sales over the next year to remain open. That could be a difficult task. Firebaugh has been hit hard by the recession and the water restrictions that have hurt agriculture in the area. The city's manager says losing the dealership would be a big loss of tax revenue for the town.
