The Northern California chapter of the American Civil Liberties Union announced on Wednesday that it was filing a lawsuit to force the Fresno Police Department to release the names of two officers who were shown in a videotape beating a homeless man this past February.

Within an hour of announcing the lawsuit, the Fresno Police Department released the two officers names. They are Jeff Gross and Scott Payn. Investigations into the beating of Glen Beaty were launched after KSEE 24 News first aired the video.

The ACLU says the release of the names was not enough, and that the lawsuit will continue, because the organization wants the police department to change its policy about releasing names in such incidents and not just release the names when threatened with lawsuits.
