Police union gives tentative o.k. to cutbacks

By KSEE News

Fresno Mayor Ashley Swearengin and Police Chief Jerry Dyer announced Monday afternoon a tentative agreement with the city's police union to forgo a 2% pay raise. The cuts would prevent a plan to demote a couple dozen police officials to save money due to budget shortfalls. The city would still go ahead and cut 9 community outreach jobs currently held by retired police officers. Mayor Swearengin also said the concession could help prevent any future cuts of line officers on the force. The union's members must still formally agree to the cuts in a vote scheduled for later this month.
