Gummy Bears Crushed In Underwater Test

(Seattlepi.com) This might be the first time gummy bears have been destroyed in the name of science. University of Washington researchers at work in the South Pacific near Samoa are trying to find out more about underwater waves by subjecting gummy bears, and a myriad of other seemingly-ordinary things, to the crush test.

UW researcher Matthew Alford is with a team of scientists trying to learn more about the mysterious and destructive waves as tall as skyscrapers that move thousands of feet below the ocean surface. “These internal waves in other parts of the world have been known to cause submarines to hit the bottom or breach the surface,” according to the UW.
