Vietnam Veterans Memorial comes to Tulare

The Vietnam Veterans Memorial replica will be in Tulare at the Tulare Veterans Memorial Park, directly behind the Veterans Memorial Building from Thursday November 29 to Sunday December 2. The address is 1771 W. Tulare Avenue, Tulare, CA 93274. "The Wall That Heals" bears the names of the 58,000 American veterans who lost their lives in the Vietnam conflict. The wall is 250 feet long. It is half the size of the original wall in Washington D.C.

Opening ceremonies will be on Thursday, November 29th from 9:00 - 10:00 am. There will be a band, laying of a wreath, several speakers and dignitaries and presentation of colors with two honor guards.

School tours are scheduled the first two days with nearly 1800 high school students participating.

The memorial has an information tent with computers to help people find names on the wall. Also a museum is part of the memorial with articfacts left at the Wall in Washington as well as a history of the Vietnam War and the story of the Wall. In addition, members of the public will read aloud ALL the names on the Wall--over 58,000. It takes 4 days from 8 to 5 pm to accomplish that.

The Wall is open to the public 24 hours a day. It is well-lit and staffed from 8:00 am to 10:00 pm.
