2nd ANNUAL PARKINSON’S WALK

Bruce McDermott, retired Police Chief of the City of Visalia Police Department, has been chosen by the Tulare-Kings Parkinson’s Support Group to be the Honorary Chairman of their May 3 Parkinson’s Walk. Bruce is well known, much loved, and highly respected.

The 2nd Annual Walk will be held in Visalia’s Blain Park on Court Street, just north of Caldwell, from 8:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 3. Major Sponsors of this Walk will have their names on T-Shirts, which will be available for $15 each.

The Walk has at least two purposes: it seeks to raise the San Joaquin Valley’s awareness of Parkinson’s Disease, and it raises funds for research into its cause and cure. 100% of the funds donated are used for research and are dispersed among seven national Parkinson’s research organizations, including the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research, the National Parkinson Foundation, the Parkinson’s Disease Foundation, and the American Parkinson Disease Association. In order to be tax deductible, all checks must be made out to: Parkinson’s Unity Walk.

McDermott, who retired at the age of 44 because of Parkinson’s, has worked since as a full time volunteer for most of Visalia’s philanthropies. He has been deeply involved in and created the Parks & Recreation Foundation. Perhaps Visalia’s busiest emcee, he has raised millions of dollars for scores of Visalia’s charitable causes.
The Tulare-Kings Parkinson’s Support Group is honored that McDermott, himself afflicted with Parkinson’s, has accepted yet another civic responsibility to help raise funds for research for the deadly disease.
