Our Catherine Mylinh is leaving Fresno for a new adventure. The KSEE Sunrise team gave her a surprise send-off on Friday, May 16, 2008.
Catherine has been with the KSEE 24 family since January 2005. She has served as anchor, reporter and weathercaster at the Central Valley news station.
Before Catherine joined KSEE 24 News, she spent time in the Southwest working as a reporter and producer for CBS affiliates KBIM in Roswell, New Mexico and KRQE in Albuquerque. Among some of her most memorable stories: the 2004 Presidential election and Chaves County's pivotal role in the close race; the extremely wet winter that ravaged cotton crops and devastated farmers; and the rape and murder of New Mexico State University student Katie Sepich as her family continues to search for answers to the brutal crime.
More recently, Catherine worked on a series called "County in Crisis," where she reported on Fresno County's staggering budget shortfall. The reports took her to Sacramento where she questioned Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger and state lawmakers on why the county doesn't get comparative funding even though it's one of the fastest growing counties in California. Catherine also covered the race for Fresno County Sheriff. It was the most-watched local race in the Nov. 2006 midterm elections; it proved so close, polling officials took weeks to certify it.
Catherine has also gone behind the badge, training with Fresno police officers. Her report. "In the Line of Fire: Fresno Police Under Attack," showed viewers how quickly a tense situation can turn from dangerous to deadly.
Catherine has received Associated Press awards for her series of in-depth stories on domestic violence and its longterm effects on the community. She has also been honored by the Alzheimer's Association for her coverage of Alzheimer's patients and their families' daily struggles with the debilitating illness. In 2006, Catherine was part of team coverage that received an Emmy Award for Best Daytime Newscast.
Catherine graduated from San Jose State University with a degree in journalism and political science. Her broadcast career began in San Francisco where she worked behind the scenes at KICU and Silicon Valley Business, a weekly show that focused on the Bay Area's business and tech sectors.
We wish her all the best on her new endeavor.
